CLIENT | AUTHOR JEAN N. GRANT
CLIENT LOCATION | United States

PROJECT | The Client required cover art for her novel A Hundred Breaths, as well as ebook and audiobook layouts, a scene break graphic, and title page art.
CONCEPT
The genre is historical/paranormal romance, and the client desired a more unique approach to cover art than is typical for the genre.  A Hundred Breaths is the first of a series of three titles.  The goal is to create a cover that is visually unique and can stand alone, as well as form the basis of the set of three visually cohesive covers.

The color palette is a critical factor in each of the three books in this series.  Each cover hosts a different palette for a slightly varying mood. Using a palette of golds, mauves, purples, and browns to help create a warm and romantic feel, the main elements of the story (Viking ship, thistle, isles of Scotland) were carefully woven into a complex composition that subtly entices the viewer.
EBOOK
The original cover art was adapted to suit an eBook cover.
AUDIOBOOK
The cover artwork needed to be adapted to suit an Audiobook.
This required adjusting the canvas to a square and adjusting the waves, sky, and isles to accommodate the increased width of the canvas.

TITLE PAGE
Title page artwork needed to be created as a grayscale graphic.  This involved isolating the title itself and creating a thistle graphic to tie into the full cover art, where the thistle features prominently.  The use of the thistle adds both artistic detail and a sense of continuity across the design.
SCENE BREAK
Natural elements play an important role in the series.  Water is the element given focus in A Hundred Breaths, and so features in the cover art.  The scene break graphic continues this concept, by utilizing a clean, line art interpretation of a wave that lends to the overall theme.
